As an American archaeologist my goal is to understand the dynamics between humans and their environment in order to reconstruct behavior in the past. Regardless of the methods employed, we should routinely inquire: what can we learn about human behavior?

Experimenting with a spear thrower. An Atlatl serves as a third extension to the arm, providing a longer shooting range at higher velocity. Earliest data for the use of the Atlatl dates to the Solutrean (~21K to 17Kya) in the Upper Paleolithic.
